The very informative book To The Victors Go The Myths And Monuments  by Arthur R. Thompson deals at some length with a group called Young America that was very active in this country during the middle of the 19th century.

Mr. Thompson observed, on page 215 of his book that: “The Carbonari’s Young America (YA) reached its ascendency in the late 1850s and played a key role in laying the groundwork for a future civil war. After the Civil War they faded as a visible organization even though their ideas have never faded from the American scene, as witnessed by the Spanish-American War and the modern neoconservative movement.
