“It turns out that the property tax is one of the most hated of all taxes. Those who speak against it ask a good question. Why do you have to keep paying taxes for something that you own? One person described the property tax as “oxymoronic, unjust, and un-American,” His quote was on http://www.theatlantic.com Many consider the property tax the most iniquitous form of taxation there is. In the past, often taxing a man off his property destroyed his ability to make a living and provide for his family–not that the tax collector gave a hoot! All he was concerned about was his pound of flesh!

The idea of taxing property didn’t originate in this country. It seems to have come from William the Conqueror in England. A king, when he took over a country, would divide it among his lieutenants (henchmen) and they’d pay him for that with either money or services in order to keep the land. But it didn’t take long for the idea of taxing peoples property to catch on in this country. By 1796 the state and local governments in fourteen states were taxing your land. So much for “free and independent states.”
