The guns and ammunition of a 56-year-old Lighthouse Point, Florida, resident were confiscated by police in what is reportedly the first such seizure under gun control laws signed by Gov. Rick Scott (R) last week.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that “four firearms and 267 rounds of ammunition” were taken from the man, and he was “taken to a hospital for involuntary psychiatric treatment.”

The seized firearms were listed as “a Ruger LCP .380 pistol, an M2 Mauser .45 pistol, a Charter Arms .357 mag snub nose revolver and a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun.”

The paper notes that “the civil ruling removing his access to guns and ammunition was granted under … new legislation — which permits confiscating guns from people who have not been committed but are deemed a potential risk to themselves or others, according to the order signed by Broward’s Chief Judge Jack Tuter.”

Jailbreaking DMR

MD-380One of the discussions that came out of class after the antenna building and demonstration was a quick rundown on some of the digital options available. DMR and some of its lesser-known offshoots can be very interesting, offering a big step up in privacy and security over your average Bubba. While it won’t mask your signal from interception and most newer and higher-end scanners can easily decode the audio, when used in conjunction with some of the methods taught in the RTO course it becomes another layer of capability.

Many look down on the lower-end DMR radios especially in areas with heavy repeater traffic. This is largely because the radios themselves have had issues in the past with the way in which data is sent between the two generations of DMR technology. Mike Bishop wrote a great rundown of how it works. For simplex operations this is irrelevant. But the…

The Dishonest NY Times And Guns

Posted: March 10, 2018 by gamegetterII in Uncategorized

This is the sort of article that should lead to a flat-out boycott and destruction of this “newspaper”.

Specifically, they speak of Mexico, which has extremely stringent gun laws — and only one legal gun store.  They make this out to be better than the United States, but intentionally fail to state the obvious: Their murder rate is 17.03 per 100,000 people (in 2016) or roughly three times that of the United States and roughly double the gun homicide rate even though the US has six times more guns per-person than Mexico does.

In other words the number of guns owned and the ease of acquiring them has nothing to do with the gun homicide rate nor with the murder rate overall.

What does?

Are you completely dense?

The “war on drugs.”

Mexico has a monstrous war on drugs and the drug war is responsible for an enormous percentage of the homicides in the country exactly as is the case here in the United States.

In fact all violent crime, including homicide, has fallen precipitously in the United States — by about half — since 1991.  I know, you don’t believe Mises — so go look it up for yourself using the FBI Data, which I assume you do trust, right?

At the same time the number of privately-owned firearms has gone up dramatically in the United States.  Obviously more guns do not mean more crime (much less more murders) or the murder rate wouldn’t have fallen by half over the period of time that the number of guns has skyrocketed.

But it has.

These are facts folks.  Never mind that the specific weapons in question with regard to Parkland — so-called “assault rifles” (which are nothing of the sort; an assault rifle is capable of select-fire, and these are not) are really just defined as guns that someone thinks look scary.  Well, I assure you that if you’re staring down the business end of a gun all guns look damn scary.

The facts on those rifles are even more-clear – – there are several million – – estimates are about 3 million, in fact – – AR-pattern rifles in the United States in law-abiding civilian hands.  I also note, for the record, that “AR” does not mean “assault rifle” — it means Armalite Rifle, as it’s a brand — that is the company Armalite was the one that came up with the civilian, legal, auto-loading rifle fitting this description and pattern.

About 1,000 people, out of 13,000 gun homicides a year, are killed with rifles of all descriptions.  Roughly 100, more or less, are murdered with Armalite Rifle style weapons.

The NY Times and others are arguing for banning something because fewer than 0.0033% of them are criminally misused; all of the rest are owned and used for perfectly-legal purposes by law-abiding Americans.  This is equivalent to arguing for the banning of ownership of pick-up trucks because a religious nut used one to murder people in New York, which I remind you did happen just last year.

The Eternal Hive

Posted: March 10, 2018 by gamegetterII in Uncategorized

“The late great Joe Sobran came up with the metaphor of the insect hive to describe the group behavior of various sorts of Progressives. It was a useful way of describing the spontaneous cooperation that has always been a feature of the Left.  It is the dominant feature. Progressives will suddenly flock to an issue, all chanting the same lines and howling the same protests, as if they are a trained army of lunatics unleashed on the rest of society. It is a behavior that looks coordinated, but it is spontaneous and instinctive.

The most recent example of this was the reaction to the Dylann Roof shooting at the black church. All of sudden, as if commanded by a super villain from a secret lair, the nation’s Progressive loonies began chanting in unison about the Confederate battle flag. Even the sober minded had to wonder if this was not a planned effort, all setup and ready for the signal from HQ. Within a few hours we went from indifference to Confederate symbols to roving bands of lunatics toppling over statues and digging of Confederate graves.

Imagine the sort of person, who, upon hearing about a shooting, immediately thinks it is time to topple over a statue in their local park. What sort of person sees their coreligionists howling about something and then begins howling uncontrollably as well. Imagine what it is like to have no agency, in terms of how you react to public events. Presumably, there is something stimulating to the person who does this. Perhaps the swarm behavior releases endorphins, freeing the adherent from the torment of reality for a while.

It’s not an unimportant question. A generation ago, Progressives were programmed to swarm over economic issues. Socialism still provided the general framework of their imagined utopia, so they regularly launched into assaults on business, claiming to defend the interests of the working class. Yet, when socialism collapsed, Progressives quickly shifted from socialist utopianism to sexual and racial utopianism. The same people who used to put Darwin fish on their Subaru, now howl about scientific racism.”

Hiding Guns and Preparing Guns for Long Term Storage

Posted: March 10, 2018 by gamegetterII in Uncategorized

Via Kenny here

“There is a lot of information on the internet about the cleaning, and REMOVAL of cosmoline from military surplus weapons. However, suppose you want to store some of your new or old firearms long-term? Or what if you want to hide your guns from criminals or other snoops? What is the best way to do so? What materials to use? Where to store your guns, and keep them safe and hidden…and so on. Please note carefully: This web page is NOT about how to hide a gun in your home in such a way that your children or their friends won’t find it. THEY WILL FIND IT! Read and obey this guide to children and gun safety by American Derringer. Note also: I would never advise anyone to do anything illegal.”
