J. Geils Found Dead at His Home

Posted: April 12, 2017 by gamegetterII in Uncategorized

“(CNN)John Warren Geils Jr., the guitarist and founder of the eponymous J. Geils Band, has died, police in Groton, Massachusetts, said.

Police came to Geils’ home for a well-being check, police Chief Donald Palma said. The 71-year-old was found unresponsive and was declared dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the death as a standard procedure. Foul play was not suspected and a preliminary investigation suggests Geils died of natural causes, Palma said.”
The J. Geils Band was founded in 1967 in Worcester, Massachusetts, while Geils, whose full name was John Warren Geils Jr., was studying mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Geils served as the band’s guitarist and vocalist. Bandmates included Danny Klein, Richard “Magic Dick” Salwitz, Stephen Jo Bladd, Peter Wolf and Seth Justman.

The band, whose music blended blues rock, R&B, soul and pop, released 11 studio albums and built a large following due to their energetic live shows as well as their unusual use of the harmonica as a lead instrument. The band broke up in 1985, but reunited off and on over the years.

The group had several Top 40 singles in the early 1970s, including a cover song “Lookin’ for a Love” by the family group The Valentinos and “Give It to Me.”

Their biggest hits included “Must of Got Lost,” which reached No. 12 on Billboard’s Top 100 in 1975 and “Love Stinks,” a humorous rant against unrequited love, the title song of their 1980 album. Their song “Centerfold,” from the album “Freeze Frame” was released in 1981 and eventually charted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in February 1982. It stayed there for six weeks and was featured on MTV.

The band was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the fourth time last fall but once again was not selected as part of the 2017 class.   more

Natural causes-that’s rare these days.

It seems some in Europe are engaging their brains, and growing the balls required to rid their countries of the Muslim hordes that are burning their cities, killing their countrymen, and raping their women.

It’s a start anyhow.

The prime minister of Sweden now says his nation will “never go back” to allowing mass immigration from terrorist nations like Syria, Libya and Iran.

The U-turn comes after a Muslim terrorist, who came to the country as a refugee and sought asylum, killed four people in a truck attack. Rakhmat Akilov, a refugee from Uzbekistan, hijacked a truck and deliberately drove into pedestrians on central Stockholm’s main shopping street on Friday.

Akilov had applied for asylum but his final appeal failed in December. He was given four weeks to leave the country and was being hunted by police and immigration officials for deportation.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven vowed to move the country from its liberal stance, insisting that the massive flow of refugees into Sweden during the 2015 migrant crisis would never happen again.

“Sweden will never go back to the [mass immigration] we had in autumn 2015 — never,” Löfven said on Sunday. “Everyone who has been denied a permit should return home. This makes me feel enormously frustrated. If you have been denied a visa you are supposed to leave the country.”

He said refugees are bringing danger into Sweden. “Terrorists want us to be afraid, want us to change our behavior, want us to not live our lives normally, but that is what we’re going to do. Terrorists can never defeat Sweden, never.”

His comments came as thousands of Swedes gathered in Stockholm in a “love manifestation” rally to show support and solidarity. And Löfven said he wants Sweden to continue to open — to a degree.

“I believe today’s [rally] was a clear message from Stockholm and Sweden that we intend to keep our open, warm and inclusive society,” he said. “I am proud to have you as fellow countrymen. You can take this pride [in your actions] with you for the rest of your lives.”

“Friends, this is our fundamental challenge, as social democrats and as Swedes, during this conference and this decade. We are here to respond to this uncertainty.”

But Löfven said Sweden must remain vigilant. “We must prevent, obstruct and defend against terrorism with all the resources at our disposal. We will chase these killers with all the strength of our democracy.”
