Of Wolves, Bears, and Birds

On a scrabble board the word regret will only yield you seven measly points, but in real life regret can come with an enormous price tag. In 1991 when my phone rang in my Indiana dorm room the voice on the other end of the line was a reporter from my local hometown newspaper, the Jackson Hole Guide back in Wyoming. The gal wanted to know about a report that I had seen a wolf at the top of Togwotee pass late one snowing blizzard of night while I was home for Christmas break. At that time, the wolves had technically not been reintroduced to Yellowstone, but reports about wolf sightings had been circulating around the area and I’m sure the reporter thought I was just some snot nosed college kid who wouldn’t know the difference between a wolf and a bulldog. The dead air on the other end of the line was nearly deafening when I explained to her that I had grown up with wolves at my grandfather’s house down near Wilson where he had a compound with about a dozen of the Canadian beasts under captivity. What I saw that night in my headlights was without a doubt a big Canadian Gray wolf with an orange radio collar around its neck, no question about it. Most of the people who read the article doubted my account of the sighting, and that’s okay. At the time I just laughed it off and went back to proving some ridiculous thermodynamic law.

Those were different times. They were, let’s call it BWR, “Before Wolf Reintroduction.” There was a lot of apathy in the hunting community during that period. Some hunters and outdoorsman thought wolf introduction might even be a good idea, and some vehemently despised even the mere thought of the idea. I found myself in the later category of course, but calculus and trigonometry dominated my spare time at that point in time in my life. I think we can almost all agree, that we should have done more; more as hunters and outdoorsman to try and push our politicians to stop the largest wildlife genocide in over 100 years. To think that we now have an entire generation of hunters now living among us that has never set eyes on the type of elk and moose herds that we enjoyed during our childhood is very sad. We should have done more, stood together, spoke up as a unified front against what was about to happen. We now know all to well, that our politicians and even our state and local officials don’t always have our best interests in mind when it comes to sound wildlife management. They say they do in speeches, press conferences and newspaper articles, but when push comes to shove, the federal government always seems to get what it wants.

The Kentucky 10 - The Nauglers

If the government does not like the way that you are raising your kids, they will come in and grab them at any time without giving any warning whatsoever.  Of course this is completely and totally unlawful, but it has been happening all over America.  The most recent example of this that has made national headlines is particularly egregious.  Joe and Nicole Naugler of Breckinridge County, Kentucky just had their 10 children brutally ripped away from them just because the government does not approve of how they are living their lives and how they are educating their young ones.  Let’s be very clear about this – Joe and Nicole had done nothing to violate the law whatsoever.  All of their kids were happy, healthy and very intelligent.  But because the control freaks running things in Kentucky got wind of their “off the grid lifestyle”, they have now had all of their children unlawfully abducted from them.

Plants encouraged as CO2 levels reach 400 ppm

Posted: May 10, 2015 by gamegetterII in Uncategorized

Outstanding !
Rivals anything the Sierra Club,NRDC,Earthfirst,Earthjustice,Greenpeace,or any of the other environmental zealots have come up with-too bad it doesn’t fit their agenda.

This must be spread far&wide, reprinted in the NY Times, HUffPo and WaPO !

Lawsuits must be filed to stop the efforts to reduce CO2 levels so we can save the plants!
Protests must be organized !
Parade floats made
Posters and signage printed up
Catchy slogans must be thought up
More experiments must be done to show that low CO2 levels harm plants
Pictures of dying plants must be taken
A polar bear on an ice floe equivalent must be thought of
The possibilities are endless…

New York, NY– A seven-second long video uploaded to YouTube on Saturday morning captured a man asserting his rights, and an officer actually respecting those rights, even as the man called him a scumbag.

This just may be the fastest we have ever seen a cop get shut down.

Sir, what do you got in your bag?” An officer asks.

“None of your f*cking business, that’s what I’ve got in the bag.” The man asserts as he films the encounter.

“Alright,” the officer concedes, as he begins to walk away.

“Honor your oath scumbag!” The man filming throws in for good measure.

As awesome as it is to watch a cop get shutdown so easily, the most incredible part of all of this just may be the officer’s reaction. He didn’t puff out his chest and make threats or harass the man further, he accepted the refusal and walked away. It is a sad sign of the times that an officer respecting someone’s rights is noteworthy.

In 2014, the Civilian Complaint Review Board investigated 42 cases of individuals recording the NYPD over the course of just six months.  In 27 of those cases, the police were accused of reacting inappropriately to the camera presence.

Earlier this week we reported on one of those videos which has just been released. The footage captured the NYPD officers lying in their police report, as the entire incident was captured on three surveillance cameras.

The surveillance footage incriminated the officers after they viciously assaulted a man for filming while one of the police officers got too handsy during a stop and frisk on the man’s female friend.  After falsely arresting the man, they proceeded to throw the phone that he was using out of their vehicle window before driving away.

Know your rights, and always film the police.  These interactions can be a deadly game of Russian Roulette. With a camera present, however, officers are often on their best behavior  – especially with the ease in which these officers can be made famous from a simple YouTube clip.

Getting High On Their Own Supply, by Robert Gore

Robert Gore's avatarSTRAIGHT LINE LOGIC

The Wall Street Journal recently had an editorial on Mike Huckabee’s presidential aspirations, “Huckabee’s Revival Campaign,” 5/6/15. It noted that evangelicals support Huckabee, but as governor of Arkansas, he was a taxer and spender. The editorial was pedestrian, but the concluding sentence revealed why this august newspaper’s editorial page is fast becoming go to humor for anyone with a fealty to facts and a disdain for political parties and the powers that be: “It’s hard to see the logic of a Huckabee candidacy in this era of conservative reform, but if anyone can sell bigger government to Republicans, it’s probably him.”

About that “era of conservative reform,” when did it begin? It must have been when Republican majorities in both houses were sworn in last January, but less than four months hardly seems to qualify as an era, and what “reform” can Republicans lay claim to in that short span?…

The inner cities

by Bill Shuey

The reoccurring melodrama that is the disaster of America’s inner cities has surfaced again, and in Baltimore this time. There is nothing really new in the on-going upheaval – just another dead druggie and a community in revolt because of his demise.

Interestingly, it seems that the police rarely kill a young black man who is well dressed and on his way to work, school, or church. For some unknown reason the recipient of the bullet or the harsh treatment are always the least functional of society. Yes, I know that every human life has value, but some lives are far more valuable than others.

As in Ferguson, MO, the street thugs and chronic unemployed are out in the streets in mass attempting to fill the void between their welfare income and what others work for by stripping store shelves. The mayor of Baltimore actually encouraged this sad criminal behavior by suggesting that they should be allowed to steal and destroy as they chose. Nice policy, unless you own property that is being destroyed.

The federal government has sunk $1.8 billion into Baltimore in just the past few years. The population of the Baltimore metropolis is 2.7 million, which indicates a fund breakdown of 665 dollars per individual. But that figure is highly misleading because not a dime of the money went to the suburbs or the more affluent areas – it all went to the inner city. Unfortunately federal money is funneled through city governments, where it is diverted to things that have little, if any benefit to the folks who actually need help. And of course there is always the city council member who just happens to have a cousin or uncle who owns a business that needs some income. The milking of the white cow is after all the national pastime!

There are systemic problems in the inner cities of America, and they are neither new nor unique to Baltimore. Leading the roll of unfortunate circumstances is the fact that marriage and the presence of a father figure in the home is a rare occurrence. Also, there seems to be little motivation to attend school for the purpose of actually attaining an education – 55% of fourth graders can’t read! Fifty percent of students actually complete high school – far fewer truly receive a diploma! Thus, if there were jobs available in the inner city, there would be few individuals who could read a job application or perform the tasks associated with today’s mechanized work environment.

The desire to advance socially and economically does not seem to afflict the residents of the inner city. The insidious intentions of government to help the lower class have bred dissatisfaction by providing just enough to exist and curbing any desire to achieve. The results are people who are resentful, basically helpless, have little foresight or ambition, and more than willing to destroy what they did not build.

The mayor, police commissioner, prosecuting attorney, the president of the Baltimore city council, and most other Baltimore officials are black – what could only charitably be termed black leadership is inept and ineffectual. The self-appointed reverends who come into the inner cities are there for the face time and are little more than parasites – what have they ever done to make anything better for the citizens of Baltimore? Until the residents of the Baltimore’s of America decide to want effective representation, and something more than existence – nothing can change – and that is the sad truth.

If you are reading this article in the hopes of finding some solution to the chaos that is America’s inner cities – you came to the wrong place. From the White House to the outhouse, the resounding cry is RACISM. This is the constant convenient drumbeat that allows the politicians who have actually created this mess through their ineptness, promotion of racial divisiveness, and failed policies to hide behind the term and avoid any responsibility.

I am not a pessimist by nature, but I see no resolution for the problems that plague the ghettos. Throwing tax dollars at the problem may help cleanse the souls of politicians but does nothing to heal the problems!

Have a good week. Bill Shuey is a freelance writer from North Carolina.

When an event occurs that disrupts eve20150508_011258ryday life and your trusty smart phone becomes a brick, don’t be left deaf, dumb and speechless. If you don’t think the cell phone networks are fragile then you need to think again.  We have become so dependent on communication that without it, most level-headed people would lose their minds.  As commo people, we need to think of ways to keep our team on the up and up.  Not all of us are radio nerds so we also have to think of the “other guys”.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • You need short-range communications (around town/neighborhood) FRS is not going to get it.
  • It needs to be cheap and readily available.
  • It needs to run off 12 volts.
  • It needs to be easy to operate.20150508_011359

Gwinnett County, GA — A 9-1-1 call for help tragically ended after police gunned down the man in need of assistance.

Officers were responding to a 9-1-1 about 72-year-old Joseph Roy. Roy’s neighbor placed the call and said Roy was suicidal.

Minutes after arriving, Gwinnett County police officers opened fire on Roy, a cancer patient who had been barricaded in his bathroom. He was hit twice and died.

According to Sherry Lang with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, “The subject opened the door, and started yelling threats at the officers and then charged the officers with a knife.”

He was armed with a steak knife.

Apparently the officers feared for their lives as an elderly cancer patient hobbled toward them with an eating utensil. Instead of simply running away, or deploying a taser, or pepper spray, they decided it would be best to use lethal force and end the man’s life.

According to WSB TV, within minutes of the initial call Gwinnett police commanders, including Chief Butch Ayers, along with GBI agents, flooded the scene looking for evidence and interviewing neighbors who heard parts of the confrontation.
