Less than two weeks later, Smirnov traveled to Chicago and murdered his ex-girlfriend, who he had been stalking. He shot her a dozen times

This is astoundingly, willfully, egregiously dishonest. Every single thing that Dmitry Smirnov did was already flatly illegal. He didn’t utilize any “loopholes”; he didn’t benefit from any ambiguities or exceptions in the law; he wasn’t freed up by a lack of “common sense” prohibitions. He just broke the existing rules.

The July report by billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s funded gun-control group Everytown for Gun Safety is “riddled with errors,” including mistakes in the number of shootings reported, the extent of the shooter’s mental illness and even where the attacks occurred, according to an analysis by gun researcher John Lott.

Since 2009 through mid-July of this year, there have been 25 mass shootings — compared with Everytown’s claim of at least 110 — 8 percent have happened in places that have allowed civilians to defend themselves, and 52 percent of time there was a clear indication of mental illness before the attack, says the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) report.

“The first point is, a background check bill is impossible without creating registration data. That was admitted by no less an authority than Greg Ridgeway, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Justice, who wrote a summary report on gun violence prevention strategies in which he concluded “Effectiveness depends on the ability to reduce straw purchasing, requiring gun registration…”

“That won’t be persuasive on doctrinaire anti-gunners, who are all for registration and the confiscation that can follow. But it might move someone on the fence, especially if they know they’re being manipulated into thinking it’s just about background checks. Letting people know they’re being used as marks for a bait and switch scam may cause some to realize they’re not being respected.”

“You can further move open-minded people with another documented reality: Gun registration only applies to the law-abiding. Many people don’t realize that criminals don’t have to register their guns – the Supreme Court said so in Haynes v. United States, where it concluded to require registration would violate a prohibited person’s right against self-incrimination as articulated in the Fifth Amendment.”

Okay,gotta admit I was laughing too hard at the headline to start reading the following nonsense for a minute or three…

The truth is most of the stores did not ban guns,Panera stated they will follow state and local laws,Starbucks just asked patrons to not come in their stores when open carrying,and stated they will continue to serve all customers as long as they are following state and local laws,Kroger told them to piss off.

As usual the anti-gun zealot author uses lies,half-truths and obfuscation to prove a point that doesn’t even exist-moms’ effect on carrying legally owned and carried firearms in stores had exactly one success-Target.

“It makes our moms feel like badasses to take on the most powerful lobbying organization in the country,” Watts told The Huffington Post last week.
