For the $200.00 cost,it had better work! It is a good concept,the map feature would be great for hunting in the backcountry,so others in your hunting party could come and help you pack out an elk,or a big mule deer,or a bighorn sheep,or a moose…

    Is it waterproof,
    Is it emp proof,
    Are smart phones emp proof
    Are smart phones waterproof,
    How are you going to charge your smart phone in the middle of a forest?

    That and an observation.
    Line of sight (with all that lovely wet wood around) won’t be anywhere near their advertised 4 mile range.

      You can put phones in waterproof and EMP proof bags.
      There are plenty of portable solar panels/roll up mats to charge stuff in the field.

      According to a guy who actually tested the things-
      no more than 1 mile in the city,line of sight in flat,open terrain-over 20 miles.
      In the mountains,no good if you’re in a valley unless the person you are trying to talk to is also in the valley.
      Ridgeline to ridgeline-up to ten miles.
      In the trees-1/4 to 3/4 of a mile.
      I wouldn’t waste the $$$-for the $200.00 I’d buy a good handheld HAM radio,and/or CB radio.

        Sun chargers.
        In the UK we get about 1-2 hours of decent light at this time of year. Average time to charge from a mat is what 8-14 hours?
        Or about 4 days UK time.

        Range? No surprise there.

        I totally agree with you about alternative comms. We use marine VHF and CB’s. Solid, time served and waterproof.

        Old school. Just like me.
