What makes a rifle practical and well suited to the tasks you envision for it?
When cogitating on what platform, caliber, optics, etc. one should pursue when attempting to put together a capable, versatile rifle covering a variety of roles – as always, “it depends” is the answer.
For example, from a quantitative analysis perspective, a test with all things being equal will show that a semi auto will be faster for follow ups shots than a bolt gun shooting the same cartridge.
