Police agencies have used hundreds of millions of dollars taken from Americans under federal civil forfeiture law in recent years to buy guns, armored cars and electronic surveillance gear. They have also spent money on luxury vehicles, travel and a clown named Sparkles.

In Douglasville, Ga, population 32,000, an armored personnel carrier costing $227,000 was bought using money taken from Americans under civil forfeiture laws.

The details are contained in thousands of annual reports submitted by local and state agencies to the Justice Department’s Equitable Sharing Program, an initiative that allows local and state police to keep up to 80 percent of the assets they seize. The Washington Post obtained 43,000 of the reports dating from 2008 through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Brad Cates, a former director of asset forfeiture programs at the Justice Department, said the spending identified by The Post suggests police are using Equitable Sharing as “a free floating slush fund.” Cates, who oversaw the program while at Justice from 1985 to 1989, said it has enabled police to sidestep the traditional budget process, in which elected leaders create law enforcement spending priorities.

“All of this is fundamentally at odds with the U.S. Constitution,” said Cates, who recently co-wrote an article calling for the program’s abolition on The Post’s editorial page. “All of this is at odds with the rights that Americans have.”

Habersham County, GA — In May of this year, during a multijurisdictional raid in Habersham County several heavily militarized police barged into a home at 3:00 am because an informant had purchased $50 worth of meth from someone who once live there.

During the raid one of the uniformed men, tasked with caging people for possession of substances the state deems illegal, threw a stun grenade into the crib of 19 month old Baby Bou.

The raid was then justified by the Habersham County police despite Wanis Thonetheva, the man they were looking for, who didn’t even live at the house, not being there and no drugs or weapons being found.

Habersham county actually started up a Facebook support page after this brutal display which featured repulsive comments from apologists, claiming that it was the parent’s fault their child was blown up by police because they were staying with “drug addicts.”

Also on this page Sheriff Joey Terrell claimed that Habersham County would pay the medical bills for the family. This was later proven to be a lie.

Now, to add insult to literal injury, a Habersham County grand jury has decided not to charge any of the law enforcement officers involved in the botched drug raid.

A 23-person grand jury apparently couldn’t find any criminal negligence on behalf of Habersham county cops.

This decision was made despite the fact that Sheriff Joey Terrell claimed that SWAT had been staking out the house for days, yet still didn’t know there were children in the home.

This was the expected result-the prosecutor, police,SWAT,and members of the grand jury all work for team .gov,so of course to them, the officer safety division of team .gov can do no wrong, and are not responsible for their actions-ever.

They shoot and kill the family dog, even f it happens to be a friendly Labrador or golden retriever, shoot and kill innocent people when they raid the wrong address, toss flash-bangs into babies cribs, confiscate cash and personal property on our highways without ever charging those they confiscate stuff from with any crime-and there are still people who simply do not believe that we are living in a police state.

How the fuck can these people not see what’s going on right in front of them?

Even the left leaning WaPo did a series on the unconstitutional seizures along our highways.

“The Justice Department is claiming, in a little-noticed court filing, that a federal agent had the right to impersonate a young woman online by creating a Facebook page in her name without her knowledge. Government lawyers also are defending the agent’s right to scour the woman’s seized cellphone and to post photographs — including racy pictures of her and even one of her young son and niece — to the phony social media account, which the agent was using to communicate with suspected criminals.”

“Consider what the federal government is arguing here. It’s arguing that if you’re arrested for a drug crime, including a crime unserious enough to merit a sentence of probation, the government retains the power to (a) steal your identity, (b) use that identity for drug policing, thus making your name and face known to potentially dangerous criminals, (c) interact with those criminals while posing as you, which could subject you to reprisals from those criminals, (d) expose photos of your family, including children, to those criminals, and (e) do all of this without your consent, and with no regard for your safety or public reputation.

The mindset that would allow government officials to not only engage in this sort of behavior, but to then fight in court to preserve their power to continue it is the same mindset that, for example, allows drug cops to compel juveniles and young women to become drug informants, with little regard for their safety — and to then make no apologies when those informants are murdered. Or that would lead campus cops to let a teen slowly kill himself with heroin, because they could hold his addiction over his head to force his cooperation as an informant. Or that would allow a guy arrested on a possession charge to be abandoned for days in a jail cell, nearly killing him.”

Does anyone still have any doubt that we are living in a police state?

More drug war anal probes, this time in Tennessee

“Last year we learned of three incidents in New Mexico in which motorists pulled over for moving violations were subjected to forced anal cavity searches, x-rays and even colonoscopies because police suspected they were hiding drugs in their bodies.  I pointed out in January that the practice has also been used in Texas, Illinois, Florida and Kansas.

It looks like Oak Ridge, Tenn., has been doing it, too.

“An Oak Ridge man who says he was forced in June 2011 to submit to a digital rectal exam for suspected drugs — and no drugs were found — has filed a lawsuit in Anderson County Circuit Court.”

Warrantless cavity searches?

And there’s people who still do not believe we live in a police state….

“HARTFORD, CT — Governor Dannel Malloy has declared Connecticut to be in a state of public health emergency, enabling the indefinite suspension of certain civil rights. State bureaucrats have been granted the broad authority to forcibly detain suspected sick people without due process. The declaration came preemptively, as Connecticut has not yet seen a single case of the virus it purports to stop.”

“A Georgia SWAT team shot and killed an armed homeowner during a September 24 drug raid sparked by the word of a self-confessed meth addict and burglar who had robbed the property the previous day. No drugs were found. David Hooks, 59, becomes the 34th person to die in US domestic drug law enforcement operations so far this year.

According to WMAZ TV 13, Laurens County sheriff’s deputies with the drug task force and special response team (SWAT team) conducted a no-knock search on Hooks’ home in East Dublin on the evening of the 24th. When the raiders burst through the back door of the residence, they encountered Hooks’ carrying a shotgun. Multiple deputies opened fire, shooting [and] killing Hooks.”

“Mitchell Shook, an attorney for Hooks’s family, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that deputies spent 44 hours searching Hooks’s home for drugs — yet they found nothing. The attorney also told the Macon Telegraph that the shooting didn’t happen the way the police say it did.”

Did you notice that Mr. Hooks was the THIRTY FOURTH person killed by police in a drug raid this year?

They searched his home for FOURTY FOUR HOURS-after 44 hours-they found Nothing, nada, zip, zilch, zero.

Did you also notice that the cops “evidence” was the word of an admitted tweaker?

On the word of a guy who’s living in a drug induced fantasy world-You Too can be on the receiving end of a 4 am no-knock SWAT team raid in which your dog will be shot, and a flash-bang blindly tossed into your home landing in places like ummm… say the baby’s crib.

Last time I checked,we had 4th amendment protections against unreasonable search and seizure.

The word of a dope fiend is not the type of “oath or affirmation” the founding fathers meant when they wrote the Bill of Rights.

Last time I checked another thing-dogs can not swear oaths,or affirm a damn thing, other than what they are taught by their handlers-things like say “alert” for drugs on command.

The “war on drugs” is a failure-this shit needs to stop.

People who want to fry their brains by using mind-altering substances are going to do so whether it’s illegal,or legal-prohibition proved that.

Maybe people were smarter back then-they just admitted that this is not working-we are creating a whole “underclass” of criminals who are getting rich by smuggling liquor into the U.S.-we need to make alcohol legal again, and tax the shit out of it to pay for all our dumb ass government programs.

Now we have the same thing, only it’s drug cartels and gang-bangers getting rich by selling weed, cocaine, and heroin.

Now we have even more government programs-more people making $$$ from smuggling and selling drugs-and the idiot politicians can’t see the huge increase in tax $$$ ???????????????

Just stop the failed “war on drugs” legalize weed right away, decriminalize cocaine and heroin-stop sending drug users to prison-the felony conviction means they will never be able to get a decent job-this shit needs to stop-now.

Save the prison cells for violent criminals, and upper level drug dealers who deal heroin and meth-the drugs that are destroying families, causing people to rob and steal to support their drug habit, and causing our prisons to overflow.

Then the cops could stop running around in their ninja jammies at 4 am,and try to arrest the murderers, rapists, and upper level heroin and meth dealers.

That plan has to work better than the current waste of time and $$$.

“The Drug War, in addition to being unwinnable, has gained us more enemies than anything else over the last half-century. We’ve gained all these enemies because we cops have embraced drug enforcement and all the tactics that go with it. Every time we dig around someone’s groin for drugs, or breach a door for a no-knock warrant against a marijuana grower, or throw a flash-bang into a toddler’s crib during a raid, we turn more and more people against us. The excesses committed in our crusade to eradicate drugs have been so egregious, we’ve actually seen a grand jury in law-and-order Texas refuse to indict a marijuana dealer who killed a cop raiding his house. That grand jury, and much of America, decided drug use may be bad, but kicking in people’s doors to stop drug use is worse.

In most cops’ minds, “anyone involved with drugs” equals “bad guy”. I used to feel that way myself. And granted, a lot of drug users and dealers really are bad guys. But when we arrest for simple possession, we’re not discriminating between peaceful users and actual criminal thugs who happen to use or sell drugs. We don’t need to treat the kid smoking a joint in his apartment the same as the Mexican Mafia murderer who makes his living selling tons of weed and killing rival dealers.

For years I’ve heard drug users say, “Aw man, I ain’t hurtin’ nobody,” when we arrest them. For years, I’ve heard cops jokingly say, “Aw man, he ain’t hurtin’ nobody,” when they’re making fun of someone under arrest for drugs. I’ve said it myself. But now I realize a lot of them actually weren’t hurting anyone, and arresting them literally did nothing to protect the public. All we did was further overload the criminal justice system, create years of problems for people who weren’t criminals, and convince ourselves we had somehow accomplished something positive for society. And at the end of the shift many of us went home and had a beer, even though all cops know alcohol causes the same problems we accuse illegal drugs of causing.”

Healing the Rift Between Police and the Public

H/T The Grey Enigma

“NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office on Thursday was investigating an allegation that an NYPD officer stole more than $1,000 during an apparent stop-and-frisk in Coney Island.

The encounter at the Surfside Gardens public housing project on Sept. 16 was caught on cell phone video.”

“Deeming eight incidents since 2010 as representing a trend of sorts from which unsubstantiated extrapolations of an “increased threat” can be made, the report presents a timeline graphic in a weak attempt to make its case. Government officials were targeted in seven of those, it says, with federal and local law enforcement targeted in five incidents and critical infrastructure targeted in three.

A review of the timeline incidents include some commonalities in the majority of highlighted investigations:

In the case of the Alaska Peacemakers Militia, where four members including the group leader were convicted of “conspiracy to kill judges and law enforcement officials,” the case was made for the government by an informant providing “about 100 hours of recordings.” Likewise, the senior citizen “Waffle House” conspirators were recorded by an FBI informant in their discussions about using castor bean plants to produce ricin…”

So, .gov is relying on a known liar, who makes shit up in an attempt to remain relevant, for their “intelligence assessments”?

Why not just rely on the rantings of Al Sharpton? Potok is like Sharpton-anyone who has views slightly to the left of Stalin or Mao is a right wing extremist, who also must be a racist, and anti semitic.

It appears that DHS is preparing to arrest anyone who opposes the leftist policies of the current admin,by using government “moles”,”informants”, “agent provocateurs”,etc. to get people to say anything on tape that could possibly be used to fabricate a case against them.

SWAT teams kick in doors and shoot the family dog at 4 am on a regular basis on the word of an “informant”.

DHS has their “if you see something, say something” snitch recruitment campaign underway,so a jealous ex,jilted lover,or an employee you fired can just make some shit up,tell DHS,and you get your door kicked in in the middle of the night, officer safety shoots your dog,and you get arrested, charged with a “crime”  when in reality-you did nothing wrong.

Remember, federal prosecutors have a 98% conviction rate-because the .gov agencies, the prosecutor, and the judge all work for team .gov.

Unless you have a few hundred thousand dollars laying around, you have no chance of beating any trumped up charges from team .gov.

This is not what the founders had in mind for government powers, this is an out of control government, with out of control “law enforcement”, using manufactured “evidence” provided by people like Mark Potok to arrest and convict people who have done nothing illegal, other than speak out against an out of control federal government, and have beliefs that differ from those of the leftists currently in control of our government.

“Pennsylvania State Police say they have seized supplies of food belonging to the survivalist charged with ambushing a rural police barracks. They say he will likely have to start breaking into cabins or searching through trash bins to sustain himself.Lt. Col. George Bivens says police found a campsite recently used by 31-year-old Eric Frein. He says police found tuna fish, instant noodles and other food as well as 90 rounds from a rifle of the same type used in the deadly ambush.”

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/eric-frein-manhunt-pennsylvania-police-seize-trooper-ambush-suspects-food-ammo-at-campsite/

So,stumbling across a campsite is now “seizing food and ammo”?

Yesterday was day#21 of the search.

“Pennsylvania state police have been joined by law enforcement officials from New York and New Jersey state police, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service and other federal agencies. The FBI alone has between 140 and nearly 200 of its staff in the field each day, Hanko said, including agents, analysts, technicians, three full SWAT teams and members of a hostage rescue team.”

Pa is the keystone state-the Pa state police,FBI,ATF Marshalls service, “and other federal agencies” sure look like keystone cops in this case.

All they have to show for 3 weeks of stumbling around the woods is some used diapers that may or may not have been used by the suspect, and some canned tuna,Ramen noodles, and a few boxes of ammo.

After 21 days,that’s it?

I’m surprised the cops haven’t been shooting each other, since they have guys walking around in the woods in camo, along with their black ninja jammies,it’s unbelievable that one of them hasn’t started shooting at another guy dressed in camo.

I would really like to know why this guy shot those 2 cops,I highly doubt the state police story that he is just anti-law enforcement,he purposely shot those 2 guys,he could have shot the dispatcher, but didn’t,he could have shot more cops as they were searching for him.

Seems to me like it was those 2 cops-not all cops that he wanted to shoot.

There’s only a couple of weeks left until most of the leaves start dropping off the trees, then it will be harder for him to hide, and the police choppers with FLIR will be somewhat more effective. They are going to get a lot of hits from deer and black bears on their infrared though.

Maybe Mr. Frein will turn himself in when the leaves are all gone,or maybe he will be  1,000’s of miles away from Pa.

One guy is tying up thousands of law enforcement from local, county, state and fed agencies.

One guy.

That’s all it takes to keep thousands of cops tied up for 3 weeks?

Maybe we will find out soon why he picked those 2 state troopers to shoot.

I’m sure the media wants the same answer-why those 2 guys? If he just hates law enforcement, why only shoot those 2,then stop?

There’s more to to his than Mr. Frein hating cops.
