NSSF Poll: Americans Would Rather CDC Spend Time and Resources on Disease and Viruses such as Ebola, Not ‘Gun Violence’ Studies

NEWTOWN, Conn. — More than eight out of ten Americans say that the misuse of guns in violent crimes is a matter for the criminal justice system, not a public health issue, and that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) should not spend resources on the study of “gun violence” but instead concentrate on viruses and disease.

These findings are among the results of a national scientific poll of 1055 likely voters conducted live by telephone Sept. 30-Oct. 2. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) commissioned this survey to determine whether adults share the view of some gun control organizations and activists that the use of guns in crime, for which they use the short-hand “gun violence,” is a public health issue.

An overwhelming 84 percent of survey respondents said gun violence is a criminal justice issue, rather than a public health issue, such as viruses. An even higher 88 percent of respondents said they do not think the CDC should spend resources on studying the use of guns in crime rather than on studying viruses and disease. Some 71 percent of respondents said that the federal government should not classify gun violence as a public health issue in the manner of viruses and diseases.

When asked whether the definition of gun violence should be expanded to include accidents and instances of self-defense, nearly three-quarters of respondents said gun violence is a crime committed using a firearm with the intent to injure another person.

The survey was conducted by Harper Polling. The margin of error is +/-3.02 percent. Respondents self-identified as 38 percent Democrat, 33 percent Republican and 30 percent independent. As to ethnicity, 74 percent of respondents said they were White, 11 percent African-American, 8 percent Hispanic; and 7 percent, other. As to age, 25 percent of respondents said they were 18-39; 27 percent, 40-54; 23 percent 55-65; and 25 percent, 66 or older.

“As the significant challenges posed by the Ebola epidemic demonstrate, the emphasis of the Centers for Disease Control should remain on the study, prevention and containment of viruses and infectious disease,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF senior vice president and general counsel. “For political reasons, many involved in gun control activism would like to re-define the criminal misuse of guns into a public health issue. We commissioned this survey to help determine where Americans stood on this issue. To put it plainly, they don’t buy it. And given the 20-year reduction in violent crime that the FBI reports, even as the number of firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens has increased, they shouldn’t buy it.”

The guy clearly rode the short bus full of window lickers to school-hence the title of the post.

A 33-year-old man pulled into his St. Mark Avenue driveway about 2 a.m. Thursday. A 32-year-old man, later identified as Rayshawn Scott, walked briskly up to his window with his hands behind his back.

“What’s up now!” Scott said, swinging his hands around to reveal an eight-and-a-half inch butcher knife, according to the report.

As Scott moved the knife toward the driver’s face, the driver reached into his waistband as if he was pulling out a gun, hoping to scare the man off, according to police.

Scott lowered the knife and ran into an idling Ford Taurus and drove away. When police officers arrived, they found Scott sitting in the Taurus on a lawn of the house directly across the street.

The knife lay on the passenger seat of the running car, the report said. Police arrested Scott. He is charged with driving under suspension, driving while intoxicated and driving on a sidewalk or lawn.

Myths Persist on Treating Snakebites in Wilderness/SHTF Situations

The current medical research shows that attempting to use a suction device or pump device found in snakebite kits may do nothing more than help spread the venom.

Some of the wilderness/backcountry survival websites still tell you to use the suction cups,or pumps like the one made by Sawyer-this is no longer the recommended treatment for poisonous snake bites !

First Aid

Workers should take the following steps if they are bitten by a snake:

  • Seek medical attention as soon as possible (dial 911 or call local Emergency Medical Services.)
  • Try to remember the color and shape of the snake, which can help with treatment of the snake bite.
  • Keep still and calm. This can slow down the spread of venom.
  • Inform your supervisor.
  • Apply first aid if you cannot get to the hospital right away.
    • Lay or sit down with the bite below the level of the heart.
    • Wash the bite with soap and water.
    • Cover the bite with a clean, dry dressing.

Do NOT do any of the following:

  • Do not pick up the snake or try to trap it.
  • Do not wait for symptoms to appear if bitten, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Do not apply a tourniquet.
  • Do not slash the wound with a knife.
  • Do not suck out the venom.
  • Do not apply ice or immerse the wound in water.
  • Do not drink alcohol as a painkiller.

Red Cross Poisonous Snake Bite Treatment…
  1. First ensure safety (of yours and patient) and prevent further bites.
  2. Do not give a chance to re-bite or get bitten by snake while trying to capture the snake but remember the snake and its color and size, and be ready to describe its features to the hospital staff  which may very useful for the further management. But if the snake is dead already you can safely bring it to the hospital.
  3. Keep the victim calm and reassure that most of the snakes are non-venomous. Keep him resting with bitten area below the level of heart. Exercise will increase blood flow hence carriage of venom into systemic circulation.
  4. Call ambulance services.
  5. Remove any item that can constrict the bitten limb when swelling (e.g. tight cloths, rings, bangles and belts).
  6. Wash the wound with soap and running water. Then cover it with a clean bandage.
  7. Do not apply tourniquet or apply ice to the wound.
  8. Do not cut the wound or do not try to remove the venom by pump or by sucking.
  9. Do not give anything to eat or drink specially caffeine and alcohol which can speed the absorption of venom and promote the distribution of venom all over the body.
  10. Do not give medications like painkillers unless instructed by your doctor.
  11. If facilities are available monitor blood pressure, pulse rate and respiratory rate until the emergency services arrive.
  12. Write down the time of bite.

“Over the years, there have been many in-the-field remedies for snakebites. Most of these therapies are as strange as our fear of snakes, and none of them work. Mostly, they increase the harm that is already being done. Even if you were told to do these in the past, DO NOT use: tourniquets, incision and suction, ice, or electric shock. Things you SHOULD DO include: step away from the snake, remove any jewelry or constrictive bands/clothing, reassure the victim, note the time the bite happened, and get moving to the hospital.

At some hospitals, there are anti-venom medicines to stop and possibly reverse the progression of the effects of envenomation. These are serious medications that play tricks on the immune system. Their use needs to be monitored at the hospital. Time to administration is of the essence–they work best if given within the first 4 hours, but you probably shouldn’t be making the victim run to get there. There is some debate about whether the victim should be using the bitten body part during evacuation. Theoretically, a large increase in blood flow could shorten the time until systemwide effects occur. Your situation may vary, but the best advice may be to just walk out.

The following are simple steps to take when treating a snake bite in the wilderness:

  • Identify species of snake. (Necessary for anti-venom treatment)
  • Move away from the snake.
  • Stay Calm. Keep your heart rate down. Do not panic.
  • Do not elevate the bite. Keep it below the heart.
  • Activate your Emergency Locator Beacon.

  • If you’re traveling with a group, send the fastest person to the nearest place for help. Make sure they travel safely!
  • Remove any jewelry or clothing that could become constricting when the bitten area swells.
  • You can use a snake bit kit to try and siphon venom out, but this method is highly debated by professionals. Your time may be better spent with the other steps.
  • Clean the bite with soap and water or antiseptic wipe before administering any other snake bite first aid.
  • Wrap bite area tightly with ace bandage. Start below the bite and work your way up, do NOT wrap too tight, restricting circulation.
  • It’s also a good idea to immobilize or splint, if the bite is on an extremity, to prevent movement. This helps keep the venom from spreading more quickly.

“So now, the most respected medical journal in the UK has published the projection that more will certainly come. We got Duncan when there were 6000 Ebola patients in total. WHO expects that soon we’ll be looking at 10,000 a week. You decide what that’s going to do about whether or not people will try to get out.

The Lancet study takes into account international flight restrictions that were in place to the three countries at the Ebola epicenter as of Sept. 1. Those restrictions led to a 51% drop in passengers for Guinea, 66% for Liberia and 85% for Sierra Leone.
After accounting for that level of decreased travel, the authors’ model projects that 2.8 passengers infected with Ebola would depart the three countries via commercial flights, on average, every month.
The projection by Dr. Khan and his colleagues suggests that about two-thirds of these travelers are expected to fly to low/ lower-middle income countries. This could pose a problem because poorer countries have fewer resources to identify and track infected people.

The risk to European countries or the U.S. is considerably less. The research concludes that for every case exported to the U.S., there will be about eight cases exported to the U.K. and France combined.

In Fight to Stop Ebola, Nigeria Got Right Everything America Got Wrong

Africa’s most-populous country, Nigeria, which had 20 Ebola cases and eight deaths. Lagos, with some 21 million residents, is the continent’s biggest city.

In addition, 49 percent of Lagos state’s population lives in poverty in slums with little sanitation. Making matters worse is that doctors discovered an Ebola case in Port Harcourt, another extremely poor area where the majority of people live in shanties with almost nonexistent sanitation (keep in mind, the disease is spread by bodily fluids).

And it was not just lives at risk. As FP reported in August, an outbreak in Nigeria had the potential to devastate West Africa’s economy.

The WHO called it a “spectacular success story” that prevented “potentially the most explosive Ebola outbreak imaginable.”

ccording to the WHO, the public-health community knew an outbreak in Nigeria was a potential disaster. As soon the first case was discovered, the WHO, the CDC, and other government officials “reached 100 percent of known contacts in Lagos and 99.8 percent at the second outbreak site, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria’s oil hub.”

Isolation wards were then created, followed by treatment facilities. People who tried to escape were digitally tracked and returned to isolation. Doctors Without Borders and the WHO quickly trained local doctors to treat the disease. And while Nigeria’s public-health system is poor, it’s not nonexistent; aid groups have been working to eradicate polio there for years.

In an interview with Time magazine, Faisal Shuaib, a doctor at Nigeria’s Ebola Emergency Operation Center, also said that stopping public panic was instrumental.

“People began to realize that contracting Ebola was not necessarily a death sentence,” Shuaib said. “Emphasizing that reporting early to the hospital boosts survival gave comfort that [a person] has some level of control over the disease prognosis.” Shuaib added that keeping Nigerian borders open — the opposite of a strategy being thrown around in Washington right now — helped to contain panic.

On the other hand, the United States has done almost the complete opposite of Nigeria. It took 11 days to diagnose Thomas Eric Duncan with Ebola after he was turned away from a hospital six days after the Liberian’s arrival in Dallas.

PA State Police/Feds Still Can’t Find ONE Guy.

Here’s what the clown parade of Pa State police,local LEO’s,and the FBI have so far…

Since the search began-on 9/12- police have found two pipe bombs at a campsite used by Frein and have found 90 rounds from a rifle of the type used in the ambush. They’ve also found tuna fish, ramen noodles and other food and clothing.

These clowns couldn’t find a point on a topo map if their lives depended on it. The area just ain’t all that big,Eric Frein may be a lot smarter than people think he is-after all he’s managed to elude these clowns for six weeks now.

ONE guy-ONE is tying up thousands of state police,county sheriffs,local cops,FBI agents.

Hell,they could have flushed him out of the woods by walking in a line through the woods,and driving him towards other cops posted near all the trails leading out of the area-just like millions of hunters do when doing a deer drive.

I take they just ain’t all that bright.

Every animal,including humans travels on trails through the woods-it’s the only efficient way to move through the woods-especially if you are being tracked/pursued.

If the Pa state police and the FBI had a few more brain cells to share between them-they would use the state’s fish and game commission data base to find a half dozen or dozen of the best deer hunters in the area-they could do this by looking at how many deer were checked in by the same guys every year for the past 5 years or so-those are the guys who know the woods. They know all the game trails,they know which trails the deer use to get from point A to point B. Frein is most likely using the same trails. Plus I’m sure all of them know how to read and find points on a topo map.

The douchenozzles in charge would have done this weeks ago-if they knew anything about the area,other than the fact one of officer safety’s buddies got whacked, another got shot, and thousands of cops are stumbling around in the woods with no clue where they’re going or what they’re doing.

What this circus shows is that all their latest tacticool gear ain’t worth shit when they’re not kicking in doors at 4am,or posing for pics in front of their city’s new MRAP.

This also shows that all these guys,with all their gear have no freakin clue what they are doing outside of a cop car a SWAT MRAP, or a no-knock raid on unsuspecting innocent people when they raid the wrong house-much less outside of a city.

Frein smokes-a lot-you can smell cigarette smoke for hundreds of yards in the woods,sometimes from a 1/4 mile. They’ve found empty packs from his Czech smokes,Ramen noodles,a couple boxes of ammo-and adult diapers that may or may not have been used by Frein. They’ve analyzed blood drops that weren’t Freins,and blood drops that weren’t blood.

Cops have supposedly sighted Frein,a local resident also claims Frein was standing on a road with a rifle and mud on his face-at 9pm or so-from 15 feet away. 9pm is way past full dark-unless the resident had a night vision device-no way in hell could you tell if it was a guy,a bear,or bigfoot from 15 feet away at 9pm.

The level of incompetence is astounding,the amount of taxpayer $$$ wasted is even more astounding-all for ONE guy.

What would they do if they had to look for TWO guys? Or Three guys? Three guys would tie up every cop in the state. This clown show needs to stop-if they haven’t been able to find Frein in 6 freakin weeks-they ain’t gonna find the man-he’s probably on a beach somewhere in one of whatever countries don’t have extradition treaties with the U.S. laughing his ass off…

“I told AP that I was outraged by what I have seen on the American White People’s Award’s website. This is overtly racist and a slap in the face of all African-Americans!” Said Rev. Al Sharpton, President of the National Action Network, “We want to solve the problem, and this is a big problem… White people should be ashamed.”

Sleeping 7-year-old girl shot in head during no-knock police raid on wrong home

Yeah,it’s an old case,yeah it’s from the shithole of Detroit.

The reason it’s in the news again is that the cop who shot the 7 year old during a no knock SWAT raid was acquitted of murder and any wrongdoing in not one-but TWO trials.

Twice,a jury refused to convict this guy-he killed a sleeping 7 year old girl because he had his finger on the trigger during the entry into the home-a home that was not even the home the “suspect” lived in.

The guy they were after lived in the other half of the duplex. SWAT decided to raid both sides of the duplex-even though they only had a warrant for one side.

The two distinctly separate sides of the duplex are clearly marked by signs hanging from the front porch.

Someone needs to be held accountable for this bullshit. Police raids in the middle of the night are things that happen in third world countries-they have no place in America.

The cop is guilty as hell-and he violates multiple rules of gun safety-keep your fuckin finger OFF the trigger until you are ready to shoot-be sure of your target,and what is behind your target-do not shoot unless you can clearly see what you are shooting at. OK,the last one’s more of a hunter’s safety thing-but it applies-how the fuck do you shoot a 7 year old girl who is sleeping on a couch during a no knock raid? A raid in which the object is an adult male?

Officer safety & co.  do not care about anything other than their own safety-too bad if kids get killed because these dickheads don’t practice basic firearms safety,suck at weapons handling-officer Weeks tried claiming he “lost control” of his weapon.

Plus the cops handcuffed the girls father,and forced him to lay on the floor,in shards of broken glass, and…his daughter’s blood-Assholes-complete,total assholes…
